Pulastya - IUCAA's Children's Science Centre

The "Pulastya" building for the Muktangan Vidnyan Shodhika (or the Muktangan Science Exploratorium) was built from a donation received from Smt Sunitabai Deshpande, relict of the famous P. L. Deshpande (Pu La) and from a donation received from the Marathi NRI organization in the USA called Maharashtra Foundation. The purpose of the donation by Smt Sunitabai was that the money should be employed towards bringing science to the school children in an attractive manner. Thus the planning of the building was intimately related to this task.

The Centre was inaugurated by Prof. Yashpal on 12th June 2004. The money for the building came from a grant from Smt. Sunita Deshpande (wife of late Pu. La. Deshpande). To underscore the "Pu-La" connection and maintain the astronomical touch, the campus building is named Pulastya, which is one of the stars of the "Saptarshi" constellation.
