Programme Announcement for the 2012 Batch

IUCAA has been supporting amateur astronomy activity in Pune whenever there has been a demand from local groups. It is now taking the initiative in promoting serious observational activities among amateur astronomers (AA).

We are inviting serious and dedicated amateur astronomers from Pune and greater Pune, to become associates of Muktangan Vidnyan Shodhika (MVS), the IUCAA Science Centre. Applications for the first batch of these associates, to be known as MViSA(AA), are invited. We plan to invite about 10 amateur astronomers for the initial period of 15 weeks. This Public Outreach Program of IUCAA would provide further scope to those who have serious interest in astronomy and are already above the basics.

The programme will begin on August 27, 2012 with a basic test. The use of IUCAA facilities like the Celestron Telescopes, SBIG ST7 CCD etc will be given to those selected. Other than the observing facilities at MVS, associates will be able to make use of the lecture hall, the library. To begin with MViSA(AA) would be conducted at MVS every Monday. After the monsoon a regular observing schedule will be chalked out. We may have an observation session at the IUCAA Girawali Observatory (IGO). So it will be expected of these associates to have done some substantial observational work by the end of their term.
